Call of Duty the most played “next gen” game

We’ve surmised that the launch libraries for both new consoles is a bit lacking; there’s maybe a game or two on each system that’s really worth playing, and little else to get really excited about yet. That most certainly seems to be true. While EA may make claims about one in three games for new systems being from its stable, the single most played game on both new systems is, yes, you guessed it – Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Citing metrics its sourced from Sony and Microsoft, Activision’s said that it’s latest Call of Duty is the number one game on both systems.

"Around the globe, Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. It’s the #1 selling title at key retailers and it’s also the most played game on Xbox One and PS4 globally," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg in a release..

"As we’ve said before, we’ve got the best community of fans in the world, and we’re thrilled they’re coming with us to the next generation."

The curious thing is that once again, Activision has refrained from releasing solid sales figures, which they tend to do in a boastful bit of showboatery a few days after every Call of Duty release. They have announced a billion dollars in retail sales – but that was in units sold to retailers, not through to paying customers.

There’s much supposition and conjecture that Call of Duty as a whole is beginning to falter, and not just in quality. while Ghosts is arguably the weakest game in the series since the very rushed Call of Duty 3, it’s also quite possible the poorest selling since the series began its sales domination after Modern Warfare.
