Although Call of Duty: Ghosts has failed to fully meet gamers’ expectations, as well as sales expectations, something tells us a lot of people unwrapped a shiny new copy of the game this holiday season. And while they have probably already zipped through the game’s campaign, and got their fill of Riley the dog, the multiplayer is always there to keep things exciting.

To that point, Infinity Ward has released a multiplatform update for Call of Duty: Ghosts that adds a new mode called Heavy Duty. The update also makes some tweaks to the game overall.

The Heavy Duty mode is a fairly simple addition, giving every player in the mode an extra bit of health. That way, enemies are harder to take down and, in turn, players have a better chance of surviving any initial skirmish.

Multiplayer in Call of Duty has always received criticism for its overabundance of “shot in the back” deaths, where players fall before they even see their attacker. It’s become part of the Call of Duty multiplayer experience, like it or not.

However, Ghosts has some pretty problematic spawn logic, which makes the shot in the back deaths all the more frequent. Hopefully this Heavy Duty mode will alleviate some of that frustration.

Additionally, the new Call of Duty: Ghosts update improves leveling for Squad members through the initial 5 levels of the progression. Now, players will earn an extra 5 squad points at the start.

The update also adds new classes to the Infected mode. They are labeled “Riot Shield,” “MSBS,” “Lynx,” “MTS,” and “PDW.”

As far as minor tweaks, there a handful of changes included with the update. Read about them below:

Weapon Balance:
Reduction in the flinch benefit of the Focus perk for Sniper Rifles.
ADS speed reductions and further adjustments to Sniper Rifle settings.

Additional Fixes:
Field Order adds 100xp on pickup.
Fix for unlimited perks.
Invisible exploit fix.

While Call of Duty: Ghosts hasn’t quite hit the same marks as its predecessors, Activision is still drumming along undeterred. They’ve teased forthcoming DLC packs for the new game, released several updates, and this week added a new mode.

Have you tried out the new Heavy Duty mode in Call of Duty: Ghosts? What do you think Infinity Ward should address in a future multiplayer update?
